Super Samario
An augmented reality experience somewhere in Los Angeles.
Augmented Reality with Professor Ron Frankel in partnership with Samora Deng

While taking a stroll in Westside Los Angeles, Samora takes on a fun-filled adventure he stumbled upon in a sunny Venice Beach parking lot. This course challenged us to incorporate augmented reality software into our usual architecture discourse. Inspired by Super Mario Bros., the video was created using Maya, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. Filming, music and sound effects were also completed as a partner effort. This is Super Samario!

Design Concept
Upon our travels to China this year, it was evident that the people of Beijing are constantly experiencing harsh negative effects of the heavily polluted air and for extended periods of time. Any form of recreational activity is difficult to do outdoors--like biking, meditation, or even simply walking. With the intention of providing a solution to this problem, this project aims to serve as a vertical park prototype-- simple in form, flexible in height and square footage, and filters the air through the tree-branch inspired facade. I want to provide them with a design that can be inserted in as many open spaces within a dense city. The people of Beijing are in need of more parks and open spaces which will allow them to engage in leisurely activities and exercise ‘unmasked’.
